Winter Essentials

Winter Essentials

Once again Michigan is messing with my head and my heart. Personally winter is my favorite season and the first snow is especially special. With that being said there are certain products and pieces that make a return every winter and here they are.

Apparel

Winter Coat: I have struggled to find a winter coat that really works for me because in high school I was alway too cool for a coat. Now I live near campus and have to walk to class so a good winter coat is a must. My coat is a black Calvin Klein coat with a cute (faux) fur fringed hood. I love this because its long enough to cover my butt and keeps me nice and warm while also being lightweight.

Boots: I initially wanted these for fashion purposes but am happy that I got them because they have some seriously great practical purposes. I have tall matte Hunter boots (sometimes called Wellingtons or Wellies). I love them because my feet don’t get wet and I don’t have to worry about avoiding puddles when hurrying to class.

Cozy Scarf: I tend to wear neutral colors so most of my scarves are accent pieces and have pops or reds and greens. Large scarves can be used as a staple part of an outfit or just a nice touch on top of a crewneck; and the best part is that they keep you nice and toasty.

Beauty

Moisturizer: A good moisturizer is essential for me as the weather gets chillier. I prefer the Aveeno daily moisturizer mostly because it makes my skin feel great and smells good but it also has SPF 15 which is an all around win. I also will put lotion on after I get out of the shower on my body to keep my skin hydrated and healthy.

Lip Balm: This one can be tricky because many products will dry your lips out and defeat the purpose of using it in the first place. I use Blistex in a minty flavor. I usually stock up on these in the fall and put them everywhere I may need them; by my bed, in my car, backpack, and my coat pocket, because there is nothing I hate more than dry lips.

Life

Heated Blanket: Living on my own means paying my own bills and while my room mates may love our apartment feeling like an oven I prefer to snuggle up under my heated blanket and keep the heat on low.

Christmas Tree Candle: I personally tend to go toward more earthy scents in general but pine happens to be my favorite scent around this time. More specifically, I am in love with the Christmas Tree candle from Target. I go through candles like no ones business and will have to replace this one soon.

Outfit of the Day

Outfit

I am phasing my old summer wardrobe back into what I’m wearing daily, so with that being said, I’ve chosen a crop top and paired it with some high waisted jeans and a long white sweater. The look was topped off with my oversize BDG bag and Alex & Ani bracelets. I was nervous to try and rock a crop top but the jeans made the look both chic and summery.

Let me know what you guys are wearing today!

Three Fast Romantic Hairstyles

With the winter semester in full swing I have had to limit the time I get to spend on my hair to a minimum. While hair has never been my specialty I have mastered a few tricks that make getting ready much easier. These hair styles are both effortlessly romantic and quick to execute. With Valentines day quickly approaching these looks are versatile enough for date night or a night out with your girl friends.

This first look is one that I wear a lot, mostly because its a great way to keep my hair off of my face while I’m working. To do this I simply start a dutch or waterfall braid about an inch from my hair line and continue the braid all the way down and secure with an elastic. Then I pull out a few fly-aways to make the look more relaxed and casual.

For this look I use the same dutch braid but I part my hair deeper to the left. I braid back one side of the top layer of my hair and secure it with a bobby pin or two. Then I take a section of hair from the other side of equal size and pull it back without braiding it. This half up half down look is one of my go to’s for busy mornings.

This next look is something more risky, especially if you are a die hard slightly-off-center-long-fringe girl like myself. I start by making sure that my hair is evenly parted in the center and then curl my hair. Then I will pull back two small sections starting in the center on the top of my head. When I do this I either braid, or twist the section and secure it with a bobby pin. Then I hair-spray the heck out of it and I’m good to go.

After a long productive day off the last thing on my mind right now is the fact that tomorrow I go back to work and then back to school and life starts back up. Whenever I need motivation like I do right now I consult my Pinterest and browse my quotes. I’ve compiled a collage of some of my favorites! What motivates you through the week?

Tartelette In Bloom Review

If we are ready or not, spring is fast approaching. This spring Tarte has debuted a new palette full of some of  my favorite shades. I adore palettes that include both matte and shimmery colors and this is the perfect one.

I have never been a huge fan of Tarte products however, when I saw this palette online I knew I had to have it. Seeing the palette in person reaffirmed my lust completely. As a personal preference I tend to stick to more neutral shades and this palette includes muaves, creams, dark auburn red purple tones, and my favorite a gorgeous champagne hue.

How To:

For the look pictured above, I started by putting the cream shade Charmer under my browbone.

Then I put Jetsetter between my browbone and crease. After I place Funny Girl on my whole lid and in the corner of my eye.

Then I apply Leader to my crease and blend. For a darker look I apply Activist to the outer V of my eye.

Lastly use an angled liner brush to apply Smokeshow to my upper and lower lash line.

Then I curl my lashes and I used Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara.

For my lips I used a NYX pencil liner in Nude Pink and Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick in Soft Spoken

Ta Da!

I am in love with this palette and it is the perfect transition from winter into spring. Below is a list of the products featured above so check them out and next time you’re in a Sephora or Ulta give Tartelette In Bloom a try.
